I went to do a new post tonight and I am having problems getting my main computer going. So I am using Deric's laptop and I happen to have put these pictures in a few weeks ago. So this post is exactly what it is titled... a little of this, and a little of that!
Here is our little Wally Golly, or Wally the menace! He loves to get into my pots and pans and decided that this one makes a great hat. He wore it around for the entire afternoon.
I found Carrie and Nelson like this the other day. Wally was taking a nap and I was cleaning my room. They were being very quiet so I went to investigate. This is what I found. It was a proud mom moment, and I was lucky enough to have my camera close by. They didn't even know I took their picture. Carrie made this cute little butterfly during her first few weeks of Kindergarten. Jess asked us over and over to hook the bike trailer up to her bike so that she could pull Wally when they were out riding. I found a spare attachment piece and was able to do it for her. She was so excited! Then Sammy wanted in on the action. For a while she would ride Jessica's bike but then we got her an attachment piece and now she can hook the trailer to her own bike. They love to give the other little kids rides! More randomness... the kids had a "Walk to School Day" early in October. The Snow College cheerleaders and Badger were there to greet them. You can see Sam, Sarah and Carrie in their school shirts. Nelson is also standing with them. That is not blood! I went to give the children ketchup the other night and I opened the bottle and spilt it all over Nelson and the table. He thought it was pretty funny. Sorry for all the randomness. Hope you enjoyed it though!
This holiday season I was very busy making homemade treats and gifts for my family and friends. In an earlier post I shared all of the yummy treats I made so I thought that I'd share a few of the hand made gifts that I have given as well. I spent all of December making crochet rag trivets to give to every female member of my family as well as a few friends. I made LOTS of them... do you think I even took one picture? Of course I didn't! (But most of you that read this probably received one and know what they look like!!)
The crocheting did in spire my husband to get me more supplies for Christmas. And since I have been trying all sorts of new things. This picture shows my first attempt at a wash cloth. It came out OK, I still have a lot to learn!
My mom sent me a bag like this at Christmas time. I have duplicated it a few times now as gifts for my nieces. It is super easy to make and lots of fun. My kids really enjoy helping too... drinking the Capri Sun! Jessica also got crocheting material for Christmas and a round knitting loom. We have both been making these hats. They are really warm and easy to make. Quite a few people have received them as Birthday gifts. Most recently we have been making hair bows. We made them at Sam's birthday party, I gave them to the girls for Valentines day, and I have been sending them as birthday gifts as well. This is a group that I just sent to yet another niece for her 3rd birthday. Next (today) I am making a red, white, and blue hair bow for Sarah for her patriotic performance she is doing this week.
We pulled the "I am thankful for Turkey's" coupon out today. It instructed us to make a turkey craft. This is what we decided to create after looking at many options online. It was a little different, but lots of fun!!
We are also thankful for extended family. Today we met for lunch at Deric's brother's house. We were able to see Deric's cousin and his wife who are here visiting their son who just moved out here. We actually went to their wedding in Boston about two years ago... it was really nice to see them again!
Last week the girls school had teacher appreciation week. We made cookies for a lunch one day, took in a flower from our garden another day, and Friday was a day for a gift. I was overwhelmed at first because money is tight but I hit the Internet for ideas. The first gift (water bottles) were fun to make and very inexpensive since I happened to have everything in the house... still the cost would have been minimal (about a dollar per bottle). The second gift (the picture frame with the poem) cost $2.50, just the cost of the frame, since I had the paper in the house as well. The girls really enjoyed making the gifts and the teachers loved that they were homemade and from the heart.
Sarah also wanted in on the fun and made these for her old pre-school teachers. They are basically the same as the older girls, but she drew her own pictures on them.To answer my friend Liz's question... Yes I used scrapbooking stuff to make these. Just white card stock and a few scraps of yellow and pink (to match the crystal light packages). We used a round punch to make the hole for the bottle and heart punches for decorations (from creative memories). The pockets are held on with glue and small brads. This was really quick and easy. They say "Thanks for quenching my "thirst" for knowledge."
