Mowing the lawn/yard work

The yard has really gotten out of hand lately. So we decided to tackle it as a family. Jessica was able to mow the lawn for the first time... it takes me back (but to a much much larger yard!) Her dad had to help her start it... it is still a bit much for her but she gets and A for effort!!

Nelson is relaxing after picking up weeds that I pulled.

Sarah and Carrie looking cute... they did help, but mostly put on gloves and picked flowers.

Can you say GROSS!!

We planted tomatoes this year and the plants are doing great! They are covered with hundreds of green tomatoes just ready to ripen. Unfortunately we notice that something was eating them, and the plants. After some research we set out to find the tomato horn worm that we suspected was eating our yummy food. Deric and I spent a long time searching and this is what we found. These very yucky worms that were devouring our plants. Needless to say they didn't last much longer than to have their picture taken. Hopefully we got them all but we will be on the look-out.

Flowers in a Vase

Since we have been married Deric has given me very few bouquets of flowers. He complains that they cost too much, and they die too soon... so it's a waste of money. Don't tell him I agree, and yet I really love when I have fresh flowers in my house. And because he doesn't do it very often, I appreciate it so much more when I do get them.
Now that we live here in CA things are a little different. Our house has lots of flower beds, with lots of different flowers. Deric has worked hard to make them grow and look beautiful. There are even so many that he brings them in every few days for me. So now we are both happy. I have beautiful fresh flowers in the kitchen all the time... and it only costs him a little time!!

Gardening 101

We have a very small space in our yard that we can use for a garden. We decided on a few of our favorite veggies to put in our space. Peas, carrots, and tomatoes (cherry) were our choices. The kids and I had lots of fun putting them in the ground. The "planted" garden. Check back later for updates!!

Deric's Roses

Lately Deric has been very into the roses that grow on our property. He works with them often to create nice long stem roses. He has been very successful, and I have enjoyed them both in and out of the house. Here he is with one (not the longest stem but not too bad!!)
